Swaddling Swaddling became really popular after the AAP changed its recommendations to have babies sleep on their back. Swaddling curls the baby up, mimicking the in utero position that is familiar. Swaddling is most effective in the newborn time period (the first twelve weeks). For the baby who doesn’t like swaddling, try just wrapping side to side to let the babies legs kick, sometimes this variation can work too!
